Viniyoga
is a
versatile style of yoga, easily adapted to people of all levels of
fitness and experience. Whether you're just beginning your journey
in yoga or you're an experienced practitioner, Viniyoga has something
for you.
Together we will develop a practice to meet your
needs....
What is yoga? The short answer: Yoga
is a practice to make you feel better.
The longer answer: Yoga gently helps you find peace in your
body and mind. It can help bring more blood circulation to
your joints and muscles, increase mobility, relieve stress, relieve
many kinds of pain, build strength, and improve your balance.
Yoga can help you discover that calmness within you. With
practice you will experience greater mental clarity and focus.
There are many different
approaches
to yoga. As I teach it, yoga involves body movements, breathing
exercises and guided relaxations that will help your body,
mind
and entire system feel healthier and better integrated.
Depending upon the interests of
individual clients, I may also have them incorporate sounds,
visualizations, meditations, or prayers into their practice. Clients
may also benefit by reading some of the valuable modern and ancient
texts related to yoga.
One of the best ways to understand yoga is to experience it for
yourself.
Prayers!?!? Does that mean that
yoga is a religion? No, not at all. Yoga is practice that can
incorporate your religion or spiritual beliefs (but it doesn't have
to). Traditionally, it was used in conjunction with religious
practices, but yoga itself is separate from religion. I personally
respect
all spiritual paths and will help you incorporate yoga into your
spiritual practice – but only if that is what you want.
Ok,
I've got an idea of what yoga is. What is Viniyoga? Viniyoga
a
name of the style of yoga I teach. It's primary emphasis is
appropriate application of the tools of yoga (such as movement and
breathwork) to suit the individual or group practicing yoga.... In
plain
English: the practice I teach you will be designed to suit you. One
of the best ways to understand is to experience it for yourself.
I'm fully certified to teach yoga by the internationally renowned
American Viniyoga Institute (AVI), and I'm currently studying yoga
therapy with AVI.
Do
I have to be flexible to practice yoga? No. There's no
special
prize for touching your toes or putting your leg behind your head. Your
skeleton, muscles, ligaments, and tendons are uniquely yours,
and the level of joint mobility appropriate for you can be vastly
different than what the model on the front of "Yoga Journal"
magazine can demonstrate. I will help you find movements that
improve your overall structural health, which sometimes means your
flexibility will improve.
I'm stressed... will yoga help
me? Yes. Yoga excels in helping you to reduce stress and the
effects of stress. Read what one of my clients had to say:
From
high STRESS to being calm and relaxed...
I felt so much better
after my session of yoga and EFT with you. I was much more calm and
relaxed, which is saying a lot because I am normally a high-stress
person. Everyone at home noticed the difference, too.
– Lin
Tobin, Grand Junction Colorado
I
don't sleep well... will yoga help me sleep better? Often,
yes. It really depends upon what is causing your sleep problems. Please
call me at 970-639-5568 if you'd like to discuss your particular
case.
My back hurts... will yoga help? Quite
often,
yes. Viniyoga sequences were tested against regular physical therapy
exercises for general low back pain. The group using yoga improved
faster and needed less pain medication than the physical therapy
group.
The yoga sequences for this study were designed by my
teacher, Gary Kraftsow, and the study was published in the "Annals
of Internal Medicine" in December 2005. See Yoga for Back Pain
for more information, or better yet, call me at 970-639-5568 to
discuss your situation.
Read what another of my Western Slope
clients had to say about yoga for his back pain:
My
chiropractor urged me to try yoga for my back pain...
People
have told me to try yoga. Most recently, it was my chiropractor
urging me to try it to relieve some of my muscle tension that was
causing my back pain.
But I couldn't see that I had the time to
practice yoga, and I had no real desire to go to a group class to
learn it.
Your approach really works for me. I practice the
exercises you teach me on my own, and I can even do them when I
travel out of town for work. I'm really feeling so much better.
– Alan Brock,
Grand Junction Colorado
Am
I too old to do yoga? Only if you think you are. Yoga can be
done sitting in a chair, standing using your walker, or before you
get out of bed in the morning. Small gentle movements and breathing
exercises can have a drammatic effect on how you feel.
Read
what some of my “senior” yoga clients had to say
about their
experiences:
I've
lost inches around my waist without dieting...
"I
can't believe that after 6 months I am still practicing yoga, and I
love it. I practice about 20 minutes each morning every day except
Sundays. I haven't gotten bored of it yet, which is amazing for me.
Not only do I enjoy my yoga practice, but I love the side effects.
My pants are loose. I've
lost inches around my waist. And I feel stronger, more confident, and
more relaxed."
– 72 years young in Grand Junction Colorado
Increased
peace during troubling times...
I have enjoyed my classes
tremendously. My low back is feeling much better and your relaxation
audio is helping me sleep better. Thank you for helping during this
time of stress.
– Richard Dedicus, Retired Senior Lecturer of
Music, Cairns Australia
I
don't have enough time to do yoga. Do you have an extra 5, 15
or
30 minutes in your day a few days a week? If so, you have enough
time to do yoga. Most of my clients have 10 – 20 minute
practices
they do at home on a regular basis at a time that fits into their
schedule.
Do you teach private classes? Yes, I
primarily teach private classes. Sessions are by appointment Monday
through Saturday from late morning to mid-evening. Please call
970-639-5568 or email me for more information.
Do you have
group classes? Group classes are available for groups and
organizations looking for a yoga teacher. Please call 970-639-5568
or email me for more information.
To schedule your risk-free introductory consulation... or if if you have any
other questions please feel free to contact me via phone
at 970-639-5568 or email me.
I
look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
